Job Scope & Purpose:

A Principal Scientist, Cell Therapy position is opening at our client, a fast-growing biotech company focusing on the development of innovative and transformative cell and gene therapy for oncology indication. The position will be located in the Cambridge, MA area. The individual will provide strong scientific leadership and manage a research team to pursue best-in-class cell therapy for cancer patients. 

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead a group of 2-3 scientists/RAs and drive early discovery research for CAR cell therapy
  • Bring extensive scientific knowledge on NK and/or T cell biology and translate into CAR cell engineering and innovation
  • Conceptualize and initiate research projects, and oversee the design, execution, and data interpretation for in vitro and in vivo studies
  • Generate solid data package to support proof of concept, mechanism of action, PK/PD, pre-clinical safety, and IND enabling studies
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional groups including platform, CMC, and clinical, and responsible for tech transfer to downstream development
  • Represent externally through presentations at local national international conferences and offer scientific support and due diligence for external opportunities as required 
  • Actively participate in initiatives to improve research quality and efficiency and streamline the R&D process for pipeline advancement 

Primary Job Requirements:

  • Ph.D. or MD degree (or equivalent) in biomedical sciences (e.g. immunology, molecular and cell biology, oncology, genetics, pharmacology, etc)
  • At least 2-3 years post-doctoral experience in basic or translational research in an industry setting
  • A minimum of 2 years of management experience leading a research group conducting cell therapy research and drug discovery
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in NK cell biology and/or CAR-NK are essentials. 
  • Recognized scientific leadership as evidenced by first- or senior-authored publications in top-tier journals, references, and external presentations
  • Strong background in immuno-oncology research, with deep knowledge of NK biology and CAR cell therapy
  • In-depth understanding and experience in complex in vitro immunological assays relevant to oncology drug discovery, with special emphasis on NK and T cell cell-based systems
  • Extensive experience in preclinical tumor models and contribute to in vivo efficacy, PK/PD, and preclinical safety assessment of cell therapy drug candidates
  • Familiarity with process development, manufacture, and clinical development of cell therapy products is a big plus
  • Ability to manage a research team, set up and lead the team to achieve research milestones and development goals
