Job Scope & Purpose:

Our leading edge, start-up client is working to revolutionize genomic medicine with tRNA to improve outcomes for patients suffering with life-threatening, multigenic diseases. This team is seeking an experienced, start-up minded, Vice President of Biology to serve a critical role in bringing a new class of precision medicines to the clinic. Foundationally, you will be an expert in small molecule oncology with significant exposure to various RNA applications or targets. A go-getter mindset with the ability to be averse to challenges and pliant to changes will be a must.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Establish the strategic direction of the R&D function. Build and oversee preclinical discovery programs and translational science strategy–from concept through IND submission.
  • Help launch an R&D headquarters in Boston, MA.
  • Expand The internal target validation, assay development and critical reagent development capabilities.
  • Oversee the design, execution, and interpretation of non-clinical pharmacology and toxicology studies. And the preparation of successful IND submissions for a tissue-agnostic, pathophysiology-driven approach, leveraging subject matter experts and demonstrating a passion for science.
  • Cultivate a network of collaborative relationships with CROs, serving as the point-of-contact for external discovery work.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to advance business development focus on partnering and creating value for our internal programs and assets.

Primary Job Requirements:

  • PhD in Biology, Pharmacology or related discipline.
  • 15+ years of productive industry-based drug discovery experience with a background in oncology.
  • Proven track record advancing programs from target ID to development candidate nomination.
  • Strong understanding of biology/pharmacology and best practices for moving an NCE/NME through IND-enabling studies towards regulatory submission.
  • Demonstrated experience leading small molecule oncology projects from concept to development.
  • Extensive new target discovery and biological target validation experience using a multitude of modalities, including CRISPR and RNAi.
  • Deep knowledge in molecular and cellular biology, in vitro assay development and in vivo tumor models (including patient-derived xenografts).
  • Extensive knowledge in disciplines relevant to small-molecule drug discovery including cell biology, pharmacology, DMPK, and safety assessment.
  • Experience advancing drugs against novel targets to IND stage in diverse therapeutic areas and molecular target classes.
  • Involvement throughout the early stages of clinical development.
  • Success in recruiting, building, and managing a high-performing team.
