When looking for a new job, finding a company that is a good fit for you is just as important as making sure the job itself is the right fit. The last thing you want is to find the perfect job and find out later that the company isn’t what you expected.

Research:

  • Company website
A company’s website is the best place to start your research. Check out their ‘About Us’ section to read the company’s mission and values. Look for a corporate blog and news announcements. Review their Investor Relations page and annual report to gauge the company’s financial health and industry standing. You can also often find links to social media profiles.
  • Social Media
Looking at social media profiles is a great way to get a feel for a company’s personality, including how they speak and express themselves, the type of content they’re sharing, and their level of activity. Search for the company’s profiles on social media platforms, such as LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest. They may even have their own YouTube or Vimeo channel.

  • Google Search
Search the company’s name to see how they are represented online, company news releases, and links to other information sources.
  • Speak with People
Talk to people who have worked for or with the company, such as current and past employees, customers, and clients. Gather information, not gossip, by keeping the conversations professional and positive.
